Prizes"To be awarded at the 2008
International Transport Forum:
|
| 1. Prize for the most innovative local initiative to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions |
Local policy makers are among decision-makers who can help bring about a significant reduction in transport CO2 emissions. It is often at the level of a city, urban agglomeration, or region that policies and measures to manage demand for private vehicle travel and promote a more energy-efficient, integrated, multimodal transport system are implemented.
This prize will be awarded to a public entity or policy-making body from a Forum member country that has recently introduced at the local or regional level an initiative or series of initiatives (dating back to no more than 7 years ago) that are coherent, relevant and original and aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. All initiatives should have achieved effective and quantifiable results.

| 2. Prize for mobility management by firms |
Management of mobility by industrial, commercial and service sector firms is increasingly showing significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions generated by company activities.
This prize is designed to demonstrate the essential role that private firms can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and is aimed at any public or private firm (or group of firms) that has introduced, in at least one of its establishments, a mobility management plan for its employees or customers which has proved particularly successful in achieving a given greenhouse gas reduction objective.
The firm introducing such a plan must be located in a Forum member country and have at least 100 employees to ensure that the plan has a viable target population. It must demonstrate quantifiable results in terms of its environmental benefits. Prizes will be awarded based on the coherence, originality, relevance and effectiveness of the plan in terms of its stated environmental objectives. The mobility plan must be no more than 7 years old and will be judged in relation to the establishment or establishments where it was first introduced and where the first actual results have been achieved.

Specifically, the paper should focus on the analysis of climate change and energy issues as applied to the transport sector and should:
- Advance the current state of knowledge.
- Extract key messages from the analytical part of the work and develop conclusions having a bearing on policy design for the transport sector.
Submissions should demonstrate high-quality research knowledge and techniques and be written and presented in a way that is accessible to policy-makers.
The award is open to young researchers (under 35 years of age) who have undertaken their research in an institution, university, consultancy firm located in a Forum member country and conducting research on transport, energy or climate change issues.
